The females are the most important part of any operation; they will make you or break you.  We keep females that the environment selects for us, the cattle that thrive in our no frills operation become the base of our purebred herd.  Cattle that do not perform well in this system are not kept and these genetics go no further.  Our females are 1100-1400 lbs, with a moderate frame.  Most of the characteristics that we look for in a bull, can be applied to the females.  They need good hips, full flanks and abundant natural thickness.  They need good feet and four-quartered udders.  They also need to be feminine and maintain condition throughout the year.  Our females are selected to avoid the extreme; they have many traits that are good, not just one they excel at.  This selection criterion gives the cows longevity and the flexibility to meet a variety of production systems.
