We’ll use this page for periodic rants or comments from
the rather dusty
computer of the Legacy Speckle Park Ranch.
It’s a way we can give comments about life on the ranch
without directly promoting our cattle.
A ranch’s direction is derived from its
operations, currently optimism has not been found in the wallets
or bank accounts of the Canadian rancher.
It has become very evident that this is the do or die
stage for all of us.
One of the ways to combat this they say is to lower your costs,
as the “Food Giants” (Cargill, Con-Agra and Tyson) will not pay
more for beef.
Legacy is working on a breeding program that will address the
issue of lowering costs.
The animals we are trying to breed will thrive in an
environment of fresh air and sunshine. (no survivors yet)
This is the silver bullet we are looking for to save the
industry. This could
free up the summers for fishing, which is more enjoyable than
haying any day. But
seriously, until these animals come online we will continue to
keep economics forefront in our breeding program and will make
our cattle pack their own lunch.
The one quote I remember from all the speakers I’ve heard
is this “Do the best you can with what you have.”
Meaning there is a putt load of variables that go through
our thick skulls every day, so lets figure out what each of us
need to be profitable and mostly, to wake up happy each morning.
